The Principal's Speech 25.11.2018
To all the honourable guests,
To all the parents, teachers and beloved students of Springvale Vietnamese Language School,
The 35th Summer has once again come to Springvale Vietnamese Language School, an important and meaningful point of time for our school.
For more than half of a person’ s lifetime, the Springvale Vietnamese Language School has gone through numerous ups and downs and difficulties to become the school it is today. The achievements that the school has made during the last 35 years is worthy of respect and pride. In order to achieve this, we from the Board of Teachers, Staff, Parents and students have put in our blood, sweat and tears.
Firstly, we have built and developed a devoted and experienced group of teachers. We have organised regular meetings to update information from the Department of Education and the Vietnamese teachers’ Association of Victoria, shared teaching methods amongst the staff and carried out reforms to improve the quality of teaching at our school. At the same time, we the Board of Teachers have attended teaching classes and meetings organised by the Department of Education in response to the requirements set out by the Department. In particular, the school’s entire teaching staff has participated in professional development sessions organised by the Vietnamese teachers’ Association of Victoria year after year.
Secondly, we have co-operated closely with the School Council and the Parents’ Association, holding regular meetings with the Board of Teachers and Parents’ Association in order to share and contribute ideas to improve teaching quality and education. At the same time we always endeavour to engender a healthy, friendly learning environment among the Board of Teachers, teachers, workers and students, but without discarding school rules and disciplinary measures.
Thirdly, despite the difficulties that may arise, we never fail to organise the annual Mid- Autumn Festival for students. This includes writing and drawing competitions, and the distribution of gifts and lanterns for the children. This aside, at the end of every school year, we always organise an award ceremony for which high performing students receive trophies, medals and certificates. This event is not lacking in fun, with much entertainment including dancing and drama acts performed by both teachers and students, with food and drinks provided by the School Council and the Parents’ Association.
Due to these profound efforts that I have aforementioned, our school has achieved outstanding academic results for students right from Prep all the way up to Year 12. Most prominently, over the last 35 years we have been one of the highest scoring schools in VCE across the whole of Victoria.
The establishment and development of the Springvale Vietnamese School over the last 35 years has been a process of continuous growth in the resolve and strength of the Board of teachers, past and present teachers, workers and students of the school. Of special note, the school would have found it difficult to develop in such a fine way had it not been for the heart-felt concern and support of the School Council and Parents’ Association. Therefore, the Board of Teachers sincerely hopes that all teachers, staff, parents and students will continue to combine our collective efforts into a common goal to make Springvale Vietnamese School an even greater school.
The 35th anniversary of the founding of the Springvale has been made all the more special by the presence of our dear guests who have given their precious time to be here today.
On behalf of the Board of teachers the Springvale Vietnamese Language School, we offer our heart-felt thanks to our esteemed guests, teachers, staff, and parents of the school. We wish you all health, happiness and success. For the students, we wish that each day you will move upwards and onwards to achieve your goals in life.
Thank you ladies and gentlemen.
